Islamabad Food Authority Seizes 1,000 Kg of Donkey Meat in Tarnol Raid

Islamabad—In a major crackdown, the Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) has recovered over 1,000 kilograms (25 maunds) of donkey meat and seized more than 50 live donkeys during a raid in the Tarnol area of the federal capital. The operation comes days after a similar discovery was made in Lahore, raising concerns about the expansion of illegal meat supply networks across the country.

According to initial reports, the recovered meat was allegedly being prepared for export to foreign markets. During the operation, the authorities also detained a foreign national, who was handed over to the police for further investigation.

A spokesperson for the IFA confirmed that the Director of the Food Authority has ordered immediate registration of a criminal case against those involved. Meanwhile, the team has begun the safe disposal of the confiscated meat to prevent it from reaching the local market.

Deputy Director Dr. Tahira Siddiq stated that the total quantity of meat seized was around 1,000 kilograms. She emphasised:
“Our mission is to ensure the provision of safe and hygienic food to every citizen, and we are working around the clock to eliminate health hazards like these.”
