Israeli Apology to Qatar After Doha Airstrike

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has apologized to Qatar after an Israeli airstrike hit the capital city, Doha. The attack caused the death of a Qatari security officer and targeted a building linked to the Palestinian group Hamas. Netanyahu expressed regret over the incident and reached out to the Qatari government to offer his apology.

According to Israeli media, Netanyahu made a phone call to Qatar’s Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. He apologized for the airstrike and the loss of life. The conversation happened shortly after the details of the incident became public.

At the time of the phone call, Netanyahu was in Washington, D.C., for a meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump. From the White House, he contacted the Qatari leader and tried to ease the tensions caused by the airstrike.

The airstrike took place on September 9 and targeted what Israel claimed was a Hamas headquarters in Doha. The attack killed five Hamas members, including the son of senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, and one Qatari security guard.

Hamas said that the attack was meant to hit its top leaders, but they all survived. At the time, the group was discussing a possible ceasefire plan offered by the U.S. The strike led to strong reactions, especially from Qatar. Israel’s apology to Qatar after the Doha airstrike was a rare move in the tense Middle East conflict.
