Israeli forces attacked the Gaza aid flotilla, which was carrying humanitarian supplies to Palestinians. According to the organizers, Israeli soldiers boarded one of the ships and arrested everyone on board. The flotilla included two main boats, “Alma” and “Cyrus,” which were surrounded by Israeli navy ships.

Before the attack, the flotilla team had declared an emergency situation. Israel warned the ships via radio to change course and go to Ashdod port instead of Gaza. The Israeli navy also said the flotilla was entering a war zone and would not be allowed to continue.

Activists on board reported that Israeli drones flew over them all night. Early in the morning, cyber attacks targeted the GPS and internet of the “Alma” ship, cutting its communication. Despite these threats, the activists said they were not afraid and were determined to continue.

One Turkish activist said Israeli ships came as close as 5 to 10 meters to their boat. The flotilla was only a few miles from the point where a similar aid ship was captured by Israel in June. On board the flotilla were many international activists, including Pakistani former senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan.

Human rights group Amnesty International demanded protection for the flotilla. They said global governments must act to end Israel’s blockade. Israeli forces attacked the Gaza aid flotilla, but the mission aimed only to break the siege and deliver life-saving aid peacefully.
