Israel’s IDF Chief Warns of Attacks on Iran

Israel’s Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir warned on Sunday that the military is ready to strike “wherever required.” His remarks suggested possible renewed action against Iran. Zamir called the ongoing conflict the “longest and most complex war” in Israel’s history. He said the campaign against Iran is central to the multifront war that began on October 7, 2023.
Zamir accused Iran of financing and arming a “ring of strangulation” around Israel. He said Tehran threatens Israel’s existence and drives regional instability. The warning came after reports that Prime Minister Netanyahu may discuss a potential attack on Iran with U.S. President Donald Trump. Intelligence indicates Iran is rebuilding and expanding ballistic missile production after the June 12-day conflict.
Israeli officials said Iran’s ballistic missiles are a more urgent threat than its nuclear program. Sources said Iran could produce up to 3,000 missiles annually if unchecked. Israel also admitted it cannot intercept all Iranian missiles. These concerns are shaping Israel’s strategic planning and its readiness for potential strikes.
Iran responded by claiming readiness for war. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran rebuilt strategic facilities damaged by Israeli strikes last June. He stated Iran is fully prepared for another conflict but also expressed willingness for fair negotiations. Iran denies pursuing nuclear weapons but continues uranium enrichment and missile development.
The June conflict caused heavy casualties and damage on both sides. Israel killed Iranian nuclear scientists and damaged facilities, while Iran launched over 500 missiles and 1,100 drones at Israel. The attacks killed dozens and injured thousands, destroying homes, universities, and a hospital. Both nations remain on high alert as tensions continue to escalate.

According to the official statement, the NSC viewed the attacks as destabilising actions that have escalated regional tensions and undermined diplomatic efforts to resolve conflicts. The committee reviewed the wider impact of the growing U.S.-Iran tensions and a potential Israel-Iran war on the region.
The NSC expressed full support for Iran’s right to self-defence, particularly in light of attacks on nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, which were also deemed in violation of IAEA resolutions.
