Nationwide Farmers’ Protest

ISLAMABAD – Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has announced a countrywide protest movement in support of farmers, scheduled to begin on April 15. The protests are expected to start in every district across Pakistan, eventually leading to a major gathering in Lahore, followed by a march towards Islamabad.

Addressing the media, Hafiz Naeem stated that the protests aim to highlight the ongoing challenges faced by the farming community. He clarified that Jamaat-e-Islami does not seek political credit but is committed to standing firmly with the farmers in their struggle for rights.

Hafiz Naeem criticised the government over its handling of agricultural issues, accusing it of betraying farmers. He pointed out the rising prices of essential agricultural inputs like urea and alleged that while the government sets the rates for crops, it fails to purchase the produce from the farmers at those prices.

He also demanded that the wheat support price should be fixed at Rs. 4,000 per maund to ensure fair compensation for the farmers’ hard work.

The JI leader mentioned that he would soon meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss public issues, particularly the challenges faced by the agricultural sector.
