Hong Kong: Pakistan’s squash legend Jansher Khan has been officially inducted into the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Hall of Fame, joining the ranks of the sport’s greatest players. The special ceremony took place on Sunday evening at the Hong Kong Football Club, where Jansher was honoured alongside Malaysian squash star Nicol David.

Jansher Khan and Nicol David become the third and fourth players to be inducted into the newly established PSA Hall of Fame, which was launched earlier this year to celebrate the accomplishments of the sport’s most influential figures, both past and present.

Remarkably, Jansher’s induction makes him the second male player from Pakistan to be honoured in the PSA Hall of Fame, following the inclusion of fellow legend Jahangir Khan. The only other inductee to date is New Zealand’s Susan Devoy.

Jansher Khan, a record holder in the world of squash, is celebrated for his remarkable achievements, which include winning eight World Open titles and six British Open titles. He also holds the record for the most finals played in professional squash history, with an astonishing 118 finals, and boasts a total of 99 career titles. His reign as the world number one for 97 months is a testament to his dominance in the sport.

Speaking at the event, Jansher expressed his happiness at being honoured in Hong Kong, a place he considers a second home after winning the Hong Kong Open eight times. “Hong Kong is, for me, the best place. I’m very happy to be here and to see my old friends. It’s an honour to receive this award,” he said.

PSA Chief Executive Alex Gough also spoke highly of both Jansher and Nicol David, describing them as two of the sport’s most iconic figures. “Nicol and Jansher are legends in squash and have left an indelible mark on the sport,” Gough said. “Nicol’s record of nine consecutive years at the top of the world rankings will likely never be surpassed, and Jansher’s achievements are nothing short of extraordinary.”

Men’s World No. 1 Ali Farag paid tribute to Jansher’s legacy, calling him “the greatest squash player of all time.” Farag expressed his admiration for Jansher, acknowledging his contributions to the sport and the lasting impact he has had on generations of players. “It’s a real honour to be here tonight and celebrate not just your victories, but the incredible legacy you’ve left behind,” Farag said.
