Author Avatar Web Desk | 9 months ago

For the first time in history, the complete Kiswa of the Kaaba is being displayed outside Makkah at an Islamic art exposition at Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz Airport.

This interactive exhibit, part of the second Islamic Arts Biennale, allows visitors to explore the intricate craft skills of the Kiswa, showcasing its gold and silver embroidery and the process of hand-weaving.

The display, running until May 25, highlights the rich heritage of Islamic arts and the evolution of Kiswa-making over the centuries.

The Kiswa is produced at the King Abdulaziz Complex, using 1,000kg of black silk, 120kg of gold threads, and 100kg of silver threads, with over 200 artisans involved in its creation. The Kiswa is replaced annually at the start of the Islamic lunar year.
