Karachi Airport’s Main Runway PQC Phase Completed
The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has announced the early completion of the Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC) phase at Jinnah International Airport.

Officials confirmed the milestone was achieved within seven months, well ahead of schedule. This marks a major step in the runway upgradation project aimed at handling larger aircraft.

In addition to the PQC work, installation of the airfield lighting system is underway. All components have been delivered and are being placed as planned. Meanwhile, centreline and taxiway markings are also being applied to ensure smooth operations on the upgraded runway.

The runway development began earlier this year and includes the dismantling of the old structure. The focus has been on enhancing Karachi airport’s capacity to handle wide-body aircraft. The project is part of broader efforts to modernise the airport infrastructure.

Once complete, the upgraded runway will allow massive aircraft such as the Airbus A380 and 600-seater planes to land safely. Authorities expect the full runway upgrade to finish by the end of the year, positioning Karachi as a regional aviation hub.
