KARACHI: A local court has sent a man to jail on judicial remand for growing weed plants at his home in Naya Nazimabad. The accused, Salman, was presented before Judicial Magistrate Central on Wednesday. Police said they recovered 45 weed plants, prepared weed, and seeds from the rooftop of his bungalow. The estimated value of the seized drugs exceeds Rs 50 million.

Excise police arrested Salman during a raid on Tuesday. Officers said he grew the weed plants in flowerpots on his rooftop. The recovered plants weighed around 10 to 12 kilograms. Police also seized 42 grams of processed weed and 30 grams of seeds. Authorities claim Salman secretly cultivated the drug for sale.

The investigation officer told the court that efforts are ongoing to arrest Salman’s partners. He added that the case involves illegal drug production and distribution. Police have registered a case and begun tracing the network connected to the suspect. More arrests are expected in the coming days.

According to early findings, Salman sold prepared weed to local buyers. He avoided detection by growing the plants in a residential area. Police said this case highlights new methods used by drug dealers in urban areas. The raid was part of a broader crackdown on narcotics in the city.

Weed, or cannabis, contains psychoactive compounds such as THC and CBD. It is widely used for medical, recreational, and spiritual purposes. However, unauthorized cultivation and sale remain illegal in Pakistan. Authorities have urged citizens to report suspicious activities related to drug trafficking and production.
