Karachi experienced a major power breakdown on Sunday as an extra high tension (EHT) line tripped, resulting in widespread power outages across the city. The disruption affected several key areas, leaving residents without electricity for several hours.

According to reports, the tripping of the EHT line caused the shutdown of numerous feeders, with the outages impacting various localities, including Korangi, Lyari, Kharadar, Defence, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Site Area, North Karachi, North Nazimabad, and Jacob Line.

The power failure led to the shutdown of 49 feeders at the Baldia grid, 33 at the Airport grid, and 40 at the Garden grid. Other grids also faced significant disruptions, with 33 feeders tripping at the North Karachi grid, 47 at Jacob Line, and 28 at Jail Road. Additionally, the Orang, Mahmoodabad, and Korangi East grids saw 38, 16, and 40 feeders shut down, respectively.

Other areas affected included the DHA grid, which saw 23 feeders trip, the Old Golimar grid (31 feeders), the Vileka grid (33 feeders), and the Defence grid (54 feeders). The Karachi Circular Railway (KCR), Haroonabad, Shadman, and Clifton grids also experienced a loss of 38 feeders.

In total, more than 400 feeders from 23 grid stations under the management of K-Electric were impacted, causing widespread disruption to power supply across the city.

K-Electric teams are reportedly working to restore power, but many areas remain without electricity as efforts to fix the tripped lines continue. The cause of the EHT line trip has not yet been officially confirmed.
