Karachi’s New E-Challan System

KARACHI: The newly launched E-challan system for traffic violations in Karachi recorded fines exceeding Rs12.5 million within six hours of its launch. According to the Karachi Traffic Police, the system issued 2,662 tickets during its initial hours of operation. Officials said the system aims to make traffic enforcement faster, more transparent, and more efficient across the city.

The data shows a wide range of violations detected by the new system. These include 419 cases of overspeeding and 1,535 cases of not wearing seatbelts. There were also 507 tickets for riding without helmets and 166 for running red signals. In addition, minor violations such as tinted windows, wrong-way driving, and mobile phone use while driving were also recorded.

DIG Traffic Syed Pir Muhammad Shah praised the new system as a major advancement in Karachi’s traffic management. He said the E-challan technology will help ensure strict enforcement of road safety rules. He added that the system represents a modern and fair way to hold drivers accountable for their behavior on the roads.

Moreover, Shah mentioned that continuous technical upgrades are being made to improve system accuracy and performance. He noted that automation will help reduce human error and corruption in fine collection. According to him, the initiative also supports better monitoring of traffic flow and timely detection of violations.

The DIG urged citizens to follow traffic laws and cooperate with authorities to make roads safer. He stressed that public awareness and compliance play a key role in reducing accidents. With the launch of the E-challan system, Karachi has taken a firm step toward safer, more disciplined road habits across the metropolis.

Karachi traffic police have introduced a new electronic challan (e-challan) system to tackle traffic violations. The system uses CCTV cameras to detect rule-breaking in real time. Violators will receive automatic fines at their registered addresses. Authorities believe this will help improve road safety and enforce better traffic discipline across the city. Citizens can also check challan details through a mobile app.

At a seminar in Karachi, IG Sindh urged people to respect traffic laws for everyone’s safety. DIG Traffic said the e-challan system would reduce road accidents. He added that strict enforcement could save lives and ease traffic congestion. Officials also said this move is part of a broader traffic reform plan. They stressed the need for public cooperation to make it successful.
