Khawaja Asif Condemns Protests, Calls for Peace

ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Monday strongly criticized recent protests held by a religious party. He said that blocking roads and organizing violent mobs is equal to disrespecting religion. He questioned the sudden protests now that a ceasefire has been declared in Gaza. According to him, there were no demonstrations during years of ongoing violence. Asif urged people to stop using religion to spread violence in society.
Meanwhile, the Karachi police remain on high alert following protest threats. A religious group had announced sit-ins at five major spots in the city. These included Al-Asif Square, Star Gate, Five Star Chowrangi, Tower, and Numaish. Though no protests had started by Monday afternoon, police deployed forces at key locations. Authorities are treating the situation as a serious threat.
Police officials confirmed that heavy security has been stationed across the city. They warned that strict action would be taken against any lawbreakers. Section 144, which bans public gatherings, has been imposed in the city. Officers are prepared to control any unrest or violence. Their aim is to ensure peace and public safety.
So far, ten people have been arrested for involvement in rioting. Police say legal action is already underway against the suspects. They are monitoring the situation closely to prevent further disruptions. Citizens have been advised to avoid protest areas for safety reasons. Law enforcement continues to work to keep the city calm.
These events follow rising political and religious tensions in the country. While people have the right to protest, officials stress the need for peaceful methods. The government has called for calm and responsible behavior from all groups. Leaders are urging citizens not to fall for divisive agendas. Peace and order remain the top priority for both officials and law enforcement.
