KP Imposes Hunting Ban at 57 Water Sites

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department has banned hunting at 57 water bodies across the province. These include dams, lakes, rivers, ponds, and barrages. The hunting ban will stay in place until December 2025. Officials said the move aims to protect local wildlife and preserve natural habitats. Authorities warned that strict action will be taken against anyone who breaks the law.
Under the new rules, hunting is only allowed in specific designated areas. Hunting before sunrise or after sunset is now illegal. The Wildlife Department wants to stop the illegal killing of animals during vulnerable hours. These restrictions are part of wider efforts to promote responsible hunting. The department also urged hunters to follow the rules to avoid penalties.
The department introduced more regulations to control hunting practices. Hunters cannot use electronic devices or call birds to attract prey. These methods are considered unfair and harmful to wildlife. Each licensed hunter can now shoot only five waterfowl per day. This limit is set to prevent overhunting and protect bird populations.
There are also new license and fee requirements for duck hunters. A duck hunting dog license will now cost Rs1,500 per year. Hunters must also pay Rs500 daily to use a special duck hunting gun. These fees aim to regulate the activity and fund conservation efforts. The department hopes these steps will encourage hunters to act more responsibly.
Officials said the changes are meant to protect KP’s rich biodiversity. Waterfowl species are especially at risk from overhunting. The new laws also align with global conservation standards. By enforcing these measures, the province hopes to ensure a balance between hunting and wildlife protection.
