Peshawar: In a major political development ahead of the Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the federal government and opposition parties have agreed to form a joint front against PTI’s dissident candidates who refuse to withdraw their nomination papers.
PPP candidate Talha Mahmood confirmed that if the breakaway PTI candidates do not step down by Sunday, PML-N, PPP, and JUI-F will contest the elections collectively. The decision was made in a high-level meeting attended by both government and opposition members, including Ali Amin Gandapur.
According to the agreement, 6 Senate seats will go to the government and 5 to the opposition.
PTI Chair Barrister Gohar warned that those not nominated by the party must withdraw or face disciplinary action. He said the decision was taken by the party’s political committee.
Meanwhile, dissident PTI candidate Khurram Zeeshan has refused to back down, stating: “This goes beyond Senate elections — it’s about internal manipulation. I will not withdraw. I stand on principle, not compromise.”
