Lahore Authorities Identify 346 Dangerous Buildings Ahead of Basant

Ahead of the Basant festival, the Walled City Lahore Authority completed a survey of unsafe buildings in the historic area.
The survey identified 346 hazardous buildings. Of these, 183 were declared beyond repair, while 163 were deemed repairable.
Among the most dangerous structures, 92 buildings have been vacated. However, 254 remain occupied, continuing to pose serious safety risks.
The report detailed that 103 of the occupied buildings are irreparable, while 151 can be repaired. Among vacated structures, 80 are slated for demolition.

Authorities warned that rooftops of unsafe buildings are unsafe for kite-flying during Basant. Warning notices and awareness banners have been placed.
The report recommends sealing hazardous parts of buildings to prevent accidents. Police and paramilitary forces will be deployed for safety.
Additional safety measures will be implemented in coordination with the district administration to ensure public protection during the festival.
