Farmers Protest

Lahore: Farmers in Lahore have staged a protest demanding that the government fix the wheat support price at Rs 4,000 per maund (40kg), warning of a march to Islamabad if their demand is not met.

Led by Chairman of Kisan Ittehad, Khalid Hussain Baath, the protestors criticized the government for failing to announce a fair and sustainable wheat price that reflects rising input costs and inflation. Baath stated that if the government does not take immediate action, the protest movement will expand and head towards the federal capital.

“The government must fix the wheat price at Rs 4,000 per 40kg. If this demand is ignored, we will take our protest to Islamabad,” he said during the demonstration.

This protest comes despite a recent announcement by the Punjab government allowing the free movement of wheat within and outside the province. Farmers are now permitted to transport wheat across provincial borders without any restrictions, enabling them to access better market opportunities and prices.
