Lahore introduces dedicated lanes for cyclists and motorcyclists

In a progressive move aimed at enhancing traffic safety and modernising urban infrastructure, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has inaugurated a pilot project for dedicated lanes for cyclists and motorcyclists in Lahore. This new initiative is set to revolutionise the city’s traffic system, ensuring a safer and more organised commuting experience for all.
The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) is overseeing the project, which will see the construction of separate lanes for bicycles and motorcycles along key roads in Lahore. The first phase of the initiative focuses on Ferozepur Road and Canal Road, with the dedicated lanes extending to Lahore Bridge.
Spanning approximately 10 kilometres, the lanes will be marked with bright green paint for visibility, making them easily identifiable for cyclists and motorcyclists. The Chief Minister emphasised that the lanes will be built to the highest standards to ensure the safety and convenience of users.
“The aim of this project is not only to reduce traffic accidents but also to improve the overall flow of traffic across the city,” Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said during the launch. She highlighted that this initiative is part of the provincial government’s ongoing efforts to improve urban infrastructure and promote safer road conditions.
The new lanes are expected to provide a safer space for cyclists and motorcyclists, minimising the risk of accidents and conflicts with other vehicles. By creating clear distinctions between different types of commuters, the initiative aims to reduce congestion and contribute to smoother traffic movement.
This project is part of a broader strategy by the Punjab government to modernise Lahore’s traffic management system, with a focus on improving safety, promoting alternative transportation, and supporting sustainable urban development.
