Major progress in May 9 cases: PTI leadership sentenced, several leaders acquitted

The Anti-Terrorism Court in Faisalabad began announcing its decisions in the May 9 protest cases. The court issued an arrest warrant for Member of National Assembly (MNA) Ali Afzal Sahi. Junaid Sahi was sentenced to three years in prison for his involvement. Additionally, the court handed down ten-year jail terms to 108 other accused individuals linked to the violent protests.
In a significant move, several PTI leaders were acquitted. These included Zain Qureshi, Khayal Kastro, and Faizullah Kamoka. The court found insufficient evidence against them, leading to their release. Former minister Fawad Chaudhry was also acquitted in two separate cases related to the May 9 incidents. His wife, Hiba Fawad, confirmed the court’s decision.
The court emphasized that its rulings were based on detailed legal proceedings and evidence reviews. A brief verdict was announced, while the detailed judgment is expected later. Two additional case rulings related to May 9 events are still pending and will be announced soon.
Meanwhile, key PTI figures faced strict sentences. Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, and Zartaj Gul were each sentenced to ten years in prison. These decisions represent one of the strongest legal actions against PTI’s top leadership since the May 9 protests.
