Major Train Services Suspended

QUETTA: Train services from Balochistan have been suspended for four days due to security concerns, officials confirmed on Saturday. The Railway Control Centre said all major passenger trains departing from Quetta will remain non-operational from November 9 to 12. Authorities emphasized that the halt aims to ensure passenger safety amid heightened regional security alerts.

The suspension affects the Jaffar Express and Bolan Mail, two major inter-provincial trains connecting Balochistan with Peshawar and Karachi. Railway officials stressed that both services will remain suspended during the specified period. Passengers planning to travel between these provinces have been advised to make alternative arrangements. The temporary halt reflects ongoing coordination between railway authorities and law enforcement agencies.

Officials clarified that the Jaffar Express will depart for Peshawar as scheduled on November 8 before the suspension begins. This one-time departure allows travelers to complete their journeys prior to the four-day halt. Authorities stressed that no other trains from Quetta will operate during the suspension period. Safety measures have been prioritized to protect both passengers and railway infrastructure.

Further updates from the Sibi Railway Control Centre indicated that train services may also remain suspended on November 13. Both the Jaffar Express and Bolan Mail will continue to be affected. Officials noted that operations across Balochistan will stay disrupted until security assessments are complete. The decision underscores the government’s caution in light of potential threats.

A railway spokesperson reiterated that the suspension is solely due to security concerns. Normal operations will resume once authorities give clearance. Passengers are urged to follow official updates for any changes in train schedules. Authorities assured that passenger safety remains the top priority during this period.

The suspension of train services began on March 11 following an attack on the Jaffar Express, which caused significant damage to the railway infrastructure.

Meanwhile, railway authorities have declared the Mushkaf railway track and surrounding areas in Kachhi district, Balochistan, as clear for operations.

In response to the attack, relief trains were dispatched from Sibi and Machh to assist in track repairs. Officials confirmed that repair work began today (Sunday), as the attack had damaged the train’s engine, five carriages, and 382 feet of track.
