Malaysian State Imposes Penalty for Missing Friday Prayers

Authorities in Malaysia’s Terengganu state have announced strict penalties for Muslim men skipping Friday prayers without valid reasons. The decision was introduced under Sharia-based regulations.

Officials said violators may face up to two years in prison or fines of up to 3,000 ringgit. In some cases, both punishments could be applied together. This marks one of the toughest measures in the country regarding religious obligations.

The new rules fall under the Shariah Criminal Offences Act. The law is enforced by Terengganu, a state governed by the conservative Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party.
