Maryam Nawaz Inaugurates Punjab’s First Mobile Police Unit

LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday inaugurated the province’s first-ever Mobile Police Station and Licensing Unit, aimed at bringing police and licensing services closer to the public.
The new mobile unit allows for on-site FIR registration for the first time, making it easier for citizens to report crimes without visiting police stations. It also offers facilities for issuing and renewing various types of driving licenses, including learner’s permits, regular, international, and women-specific licenses.
During the inauguration, Maryam Nawaz handed over the keys of the mobile unit to the responsible officers and engaged with the staff, emphasizing the importance of compassion and professionalism while serving the public.
The mobile service will specifically target women’s educational institutions and working women, extending police and licensing support to communities with limited access to these essential services.
In a related development, the Chief Minister also distributed ‘Flood Cards’ in Okara as part of a major provincial rehabilitation program for flood-affected families. Speaking at the ceremony in Depalpur, she pledged to ensure full rehabilitation for all affected residents.
Maryam Nawaz described the recent floods as the worst in Punjab’s history and promised to work tirelessly until every displaced person is able to return safely to their homes.

Karachi traffic police have introduced a new electronic challan (e-challan) system to tackle traffic violations. The system uses CCTV cameras to detect rule-breaking in real time. Violators will receive automatic fines at their registered addresses. Authorities believe this will help improve road safety and enforce better traffic discipline across the city. Citizens can also check challan details through a mobile app.
At a seminar in Karachi, IG Sindh urged people to respect traffic laws for everyone’s safety. DIG Traffic said the e-challan system would reduce road accidents. He added that strict enforcement could save lives and ease traffic congestion. Officials also said this move is part of a broader traffic reform plan. They stressed the need for public cooperation to make it successful.
