KASHMORE — Authorities have declared a medium flood in the Indus River at the Guddu and Sukkur barrages as water levels continue to rise, posing a potential threat to nearby communities and agricultural lands.

According to the Flood Forecasting Division, the water inflow at Guddu Barrage has reached 423,200 cusecs, while the outflow is 387,100 cusecs, placing the river in the medium flood category. A similar situation has been reported at Sukkur Barrage, where inflow is 360,100 cusecs and outflow stands at 300,900 cusecs.

Meanwhile, in Larkana, the Indus is experiencing a low flood, but the rising water levels are actively eroding the Nusrat Loop Bund dyke near Naudero, raising concerns among residents. They fear that if the erosion continues unchecked, it could endanger residential areas and farmlands.

In the downstream region, the river remains below flood level at Kotri Barrage, where the current inflow is 150,400 cusecs and outflow is 107,900 cusecs.

Elsewhere in the country, the river is in low flood at key points, including the Tarbela, Kalabagh, Chashma, and Taunsa headworks.

Reservoir levels are also under close observation:

  • Tarbela Dam is currently at 1,537 feet, which is 87.07% of its maximum conservation level of 1,550 feet.
  • Mangla Dam stands at 1,198.75 feet, which is 57.36% of its maximum conservation capacity of 1,242 feet.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and irrigation officials are monitoring the situation closely and are expected to take urgent measures to reinforce vulnerable embankments, especially around the Nusrat Loop Bund.
