Naqvi Denies Apology to BCCI, Slams “Lies” Over Asia Cup Trophy Row

Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has strongly rejected claims by Indian media. He denied reports that he apologised to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Naqvi called the news false and said it was part of a smear campaign. He took to his official X account to clarify his position. “I have done nothing wrong and I have never apologized,” he wrote.

The controversy began after reports suggested Naqvi apologised over the Asia Cup trophy and medal handover. Indian outlets claimed he agreed to hand over the items under certain terms. However, Naqvi said he was ready to present the trophy on the day of the final. He added that the offer still stands if India wants it. He rejected all allegations, calling them politically motivated and misleading.

Naqvi accused Indian authorities of dragging politics into the sport. He said mixing politics with cricket harms the spirit of the game. According to him, this behavior damages cricket’s global reputation. He warned that such actions only divide fans and create unnecessary tension. Still, he showed openness to resolving the matter respectfully.

He also clarified that the BCCI President was ready to give the trophy to the winning team. That offer remains valid, Naqvi added. He urged the Indian cricket team to approach the ACC if they want the trophy. “The Indian captain should receive it from me, and I will welcome him,” he said.

Naqvi firmly stood by his remarks and criticised what he called media-driven propaganda. He asked fans not to believe baseless stories without facts. Despite the row, he maintained a diplomatic tone and extended an olive branch. The issue has sparked wider debate on politics in cricket. Many now question the growing tensions between the two boards.
