MQM Calls for Independent Inquiry into Gul Plaza Tragedy

Chairman of MQM Pakistan, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, has written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif demanding accountability after the Gul Plaza tragedy. In his letter, he called for the formation of a high-level, independent, and transparent commission, emphasizing that MQM calls for independent inquiry into Gul Plaza tragedy to ensure justice and prevent future negligence.

The letter requests that the inquiry commission include representatives from FIA, NAB, NDMA, and other relevant authorities. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui stressed that all efforts should be made to conduct a fair and impartial investigation.

He further urged the federal government and law enforcement agencies to immediately manage rescue and relief operations so that human lives and valuable belongings can be protected. This step, he said, is crucial for the families of those affected.

Siddiqui also demanded the establishment of a “Relief and Rehabilitation Fund” under the federal government to provide financial assistance to the victims and their families. He highlighted that seven days have passed since the tragedy, yet many people are still missing, and families have not recovered their loved ones’ bodies. Over 12,000 families have been directly affected by the incident.

Finally, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui held the Sindh government, provincial departments, municipal authorities, and other responsible organizations accountable for the deaths and financial losses caused by the incident. He emphasized that MQM calls for independent inquiry into Gul Plaza tragedy to ensure justice and accountability for those responsible for this gross negligence.
