NADRA blocks over 71,000 fake or ineligible CNICs in the last five years

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has blocked more than 71,000 Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) over the past five years, according to documents submitted by the Ministry of Interior in the National Assembly.

 

These CNICs were blocked for being either fake or issued to ineligible individuals. The total number of blocked cards across Pakistan stands at 71,849. The breakdown reveals the highest number of blocked CNICs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with 25,981 cards, followed by Balochistan, where 20,583 CNICs were blocked.

Other provinces and regions also saw substantial numbers of blocked ID cards: Punjab had 13,564 blocked, Sindh reported 9,677, and Islamabad had 1,370 CNICs blocked. In Azad Kashmir, 446 cards were blocked, while Gilgit-Baltistan saw 228 cards blocked.

Alongside blocking, NADRA also unblocked 44,460 CNICs after thorough verification during the same five-year period.
