New Peshawar bus terminal set to boost transport infrastructure

A state-of-the-art Peshawar General Bus Terminal is nearing completion and is expected to become one of the largest infrastructure projects in the history of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government.
Spanning 323 kanals and built at a cost of Rs4.2 billion, the project is designed to provide modern, organised and efficient travel facilities for passengers, along with a fully equipped transport system aimed at improving urban mobility in the provincial capital.
According to Special Assistant for Information Shafi Jan, the project represents steady progress in the province’s development agenda. He said the initiative reflects a broader vision for modern infrastructure, adding that a documentary highlighting the project will be released soon.
Officials say the terminal will offer world-class amenities and a structured transport environment, improving both passenger convenience and traffic management in Peshawar. Once operational, it is expected to streamline intercity travel and reduce congestion within the city.
In a related development, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has approved key development projects for inclusion in the upcoming Annual Development Program 2026–27. These include a new general hospital for Peshawar and an electric bus project for the Peshawar Ring Road.
The approval was given during a consultative meeting with parliamentarians from the Peshawar region held at Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad, where senators, MNAs, and MPAs discussed regional development priorities.
Officials say these initiatives are part of a broader effort to upgrade public services, improve urban infrastructure, and introduce sustainable transport solutions in the province.
Once completed, the bus terminal and associated projects are expected to significantly enhance public transport capacity and contribute to long-term urban development in Peshawar.
