Oath ceremony
On Friday, a Oath ceremony was conducted here to swear in six recently appointed Supreme Court judges.

The justices were sworn in by Justice Yahya Afridi, the Chief Justice of Pakistan. Lawyers and justices from the highest court attended the ceremony.

Judges Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar, Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui, Salahuddin Panhwar, Shakeel Ahmad, Aamer Farooq, and Ishtiaq Ibrahim were among the recently sworn-in judges.

As an acting judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb of the Islamabad High Court (ICH) took the oath of office.

The initial date of the oath-taking event was set for Thursday, February 13. However, because the Ministry of Law and Justice issued the notice of the new judges late at night, it was delayed and moved to Friday.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and two senior judges boycotted the appointment of new judges to the Supreme Court, but the Judicial Commission of Pakistan authorised it.

In the meantime, in Karachi and Peshawar, the acting chief justices of the high courts of Sindh and Peshawar were sworn in.

Sindh: At Governor’s House in Karachi, Governor Kamran Tessori swore in interim Chief Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar.

The event was also attended by Justice Sana Akram Minhas, Justice Zafar Rajput, Justice Zafar Iqbal, Justice Yousuf Syed, Justice Amjad Sahato, and Justice Agha Faisal, who is the leader of the Constitutional Bench.

Born on September 14, 1963, Justice Junaid Ghaffar earned his law degree in 1990 and was added to the Sindh High Court’s bench in 2013. Following the promotion of Justices Shafi Siddiqui and Salahuddin Panhor to the Supreme Court, he became the most senior judge in the Sindh High Court.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Judge S.M. Atiq Shah was sworn in as the interim chief judge of the Peshawar High Court by Governor Faisal Karim Kundi.
