Opposition Fails to Finalize Joint Strategy for KP Senate Elections

PESHAWAR: Opposition parties in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have yet to agree on a joint formula for the upcoming Senate elections scheduled for July 21, sources revealed on Monday.

According to insiders, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has urged all major opposition parties to contest the elections on a united front rather than fielding individual candidates.

The election will fill 12 seats, including one vacated by Sania Nishtar, while the rest are part of the routine Senate rotation.

Sources close to the PPP said the party has reached out to PML-N, JUI-F, ANP, and PTI Parliamentarians (PTI-P), emphasising that a solo approach would hurt all parties involved. “If the opposition fails to form an alliance, it risks losing at least one Senate seat,” they warned.

Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha, President of PPP KP, has reportedly been in touch with leaders of all opposition parties, receiving positive signals for cooperation.

PPP also plans to seek support from independent members and all parliamentary groups in the KP Assembly to consolidate votes. If successful, a united opposition could secure up to five Senate seats from the province, according to sources.
