Over 3,600 vehicles stolen or snatched in Karachi during March

A sharp rise in street crime has been reported in Karachi, where more than 3,600 vehicles were either stolen or snatched during March 2026, according to data released by the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC).
The report revealed that a total of 3,624 incidents of vehicle theft and snatching were recorded across the city. These included 157 cars and 3,467 motorcycles, highlighting the vulnerability of two-wheeler owners in particular.
Out of the total motorcycle-related incidents, 3,027 were theft cases, while 440 motorcycles were snatched at gunpoint. Similarly, 140 cars were reported stolen, and 17 were taken away through armed snatching.
In addition to vehicle-related crimes, citizens were deprived of 1,265 mobile phones during the same period, reflecting the broader issue of street crime in the metropolis.
The report also documented 44 cases of murder, six incidents of extortion, and one case of kidnapping for ransom in March, raising serious concerns about public safety and law enforcement effectiveness.
In a separate development, Karachi Police successfully dismantled a gang involved in child abduction and forced criminal activity. The case came to light after an 11-year-old boy, Ayan, went missing from the Korangi area.
Following a complaint registered at Saudabad Police Station, a police team formed on the orders of Fida Hussain Jaffari conducted an intelligence-based operation and safely recovered the child.
According to the victim’s statement, he was abducted, physically abused, and forced to consume drugs. He was allegedly coerced into committing crimes, including mobile phone theft. Two suspects, identified as Sahil and Fatima, have been arrested.
Authorities have vowed strict action against criminal networks involved in such activities.
