Pakistan and Bangladesh Boost Trade Through Business Meetings

Pakistan and Bangladesh are strengthening their economic and diplomatic ties through recent high-level meetings and business events. Ihsaan Afzal Khan, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Commerce, attended a networking event between the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI). He met with DCCI President Taskeen Ahmed and board members to discuss growing trade activity. Mr. Khan noted an increase in business interest, especially in pharmaceuticals, automotive, and minerals. He emphasized the need for deeper cooperation to unlock new trade and investment opportunities.
During the session, Mr. Khan highlighted the importance of building a strong business-friendly environment. He reassured stakeholders of the government’s full support for expanding private-sector collaboration. The event was well received by participants, who called it a major step forward in bilateral relations. Both sides expressed optimism about long-term economic cooperation. Mr. Khan’s efforts follow a recent visit by Pakistan’s Minister for Commerce, showing sustained government focus on trade with Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Dr. A. F. M. Khalid Hossain, Adviser on Religious Affairs to the Bangladesh government. The meeting took place in Islamabad and was also attended by Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Md Iqbal Hussain Khan. Prime Minister Sharif welcomed the delegation warmly and praised the growing momentum in bilateral ties. He stressed the need for continued high-level exchanges. He also highlighted key areas of cooperation, such as education, people-to-people contact, and trade.
The Prime Minister recalled earlier meetings with Dr. Hossain in New York and Cairo. He commended Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus for his leadership in poverty reduction and regional cooperation. Dr. Hossain conveyed a letter from Professor Yunus offering condolences over recent flood losses in Pakistan. The letter also included an offer of relief support from Bangladesh. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude and emphasized the importance of solidarity during difficult times.
These events show a clear intent from both countries to deepen ties across multiple sectors. Trade, culture, and diplomacy are all seeing renewed focus. With active government support and private sector involvement, Pakistan and Bangladesh appear ready to open new chapters in their relationship. Enhanced cooperation could bring significant economic benefits for both nations. Continued dialogue and partnership remain key to long-term success.
