Pakistan and Japan discuss economic cooperation and reforms

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Finance, Muhammad Aurangzeb, and the Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, Akamatsu Shuichi, held a meeting on Thursday to discuss a range of issues, including economic reforms, bilateral relations, and opportunities to enhance economic cooperation between the two nations.
Minister Aurangzeb welcomed Ambassador Akamatsu, who was in Islamabad to assume his new diplomatic duties. The finance minister acknowledged Japan’s long-standing partnership with Pakistan, emphasising the importance of continued collaboration between the two countries.
During the meeting, Minister Aurangzeb briefed the Japanese ambassador on Pakistan’s efforts to stabilise its macro economy, ongoing taxation reforms, the development of special economic zones, and ongoing reforms in the energy sector. He reassured Ambassador Akamatsu of the government’s commitment to pursuing comprehensive reforms aimed at addressing critical challenges such as population growth and the risks posed by climate change.
