Pakistan announces 15-member squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially announced the 15-member squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The team, led by captain Babar Azam, will also participate in the upcoming tri-nation ODI series against New Zealand and South Africa as part of their preparations for the prestigious tournament.
Key inclusions in the squad are Fakhar Zaman, Khushdil Shah, Saud Shakeel, and Faheem Ashraf, all making a return to the national team. Fakhar Zaman is expected to open the batting alongside either Babar Azam or Saud Shakeel, with the selectors aiming to strengthen the opening partnership.
Selector Asad Shafiq emphasized that the team was chosen based on performances in home conditions, with a particular focus on players who have excelled in local competitions. “We have selected the best players based on their recent form in home conditions,” Shafiq stated.

The selectors also addressed the exclusion of promising young cricketer Saim Ayub from the Champions Trophy squad. “We understand how disappointing it must be for Saim Ayub not to be included, but we are not rushing into any decisions,” Asad Shafiq added.
Pakistan will play their first match in the Champions Trophy against New Zealand on February 19 in Karachi, kicking off their campaign for the 2025 tournament.
