Pakistan Army Has No Role in Political Dialogue, Says DG ISPR

The Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has made it clear that the Pakistan Army has no interest in participating in political talks and has reiterated the military’s neutral stance.

In an interview with the BBC, the DG ISPR emphasised that the armed forces should not be involved in political matters. “It is the responsibility of political parties to hold discussions with one another,” he said, urging all sides to keep the military out of political affairs.

Major General Chaudhry stated that the Army communicates with the state, not individual political groups. “Under the Constitution, the state is formed by political parties, and the government in power represents that state. The military works under that structure,” he explained.

He added that any concerns regarding political uncertainty or instability should be addressed by the political leadership. “We urge that political matters stay within political platforms, and the armed forces should not be brought into these debates,” he concluded.
