Pakistan Bans Tehreek-e-Labbaik

The Interior Ministry of Pakistan has officially announced a ban on Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) under the Anti-Terrorism Act. This decision comes following approval by the federal cabinet, which acted on recommendations from the Punjab government.

According to the ministry’s notification, the federal government considers TLP to be involved in terrorist activities. Under the Anti-Terrorism Act, TLP has been declared a proscribed organization and added to the First Schedule.

The ban was confirmed during a federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday evening. Authorities highlighted that since its establishment in 2016, TLP has been linked to unrest and violent incidents across the country.

Reports indicate that protests and rallies organized by the group have previously resulted in casualties, including deaths of security personnel and civilians. The organization is also accused of arson, destruction of private property, challenging state authority, promoting sectarianism, and engaging in violent attacks against police personnel.

The government’s move aims to curb the organization’s activities and prevent further threats to public safety and national security.

This decision comes after the Punjab government officially recommended the move, citing TLP’s involvement in violent protests, attacks on law enforcement agencies, and acts of arson.

The Interior Ministry provided cabinet members with a comprehensive summary from the Punjab government, which detailed serious allegations against TLP, including incitement to unrest, undermining the authority of the state, fostering sectarian divisions, and causing extensive damage to both public and private properties.
