Pakistan Day
ISLAMABAD: The nation is celebrating Pakistan Day today (Sunday) with patriotic fervour and a renewed pledge to uphold the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah by transforming the country into a valid Islamic and welfare state.

The day marks the historic Lahore Resolution passed on March 23, 1940, which laid the foundation for an independent Muslim state, later becoming Pakistan. It also commemorates the adoption of the country’s first constitution on March 23, 1956, making Pakistan the world’s first Islamic Republic.

Celebrations began with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and a 21-gun salute in provincial capitals. Special prayers were offered in mosques across the country for national unity, progress, and prosperity.

A highlight of the celebrations is the Pakistan Day Military Parade, which is being held on a limited scale at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad due to the holy month of Ramadan. President Asif Ali Zardari is attending as the chief guest, with contingents from the Pakistan Army, Navy, and Air Force actively participating.

The Pakistan Air Force is also set to conduct a spectacular flypast, showcasing the country’s air defense capabilities. The event serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made for the nation’s independence and the continued resolve to strengthen Pakistan as a sovereign, prosperous state.
