Pakistan Makes Historic Oil Gas Discovery in Kohat Block

Pakistan makes a historic oil and gas discovery in Kohat, marking a major milestone for the country’s energy sector. Oil and Gas Development Company Limited announced the breakthrough at the Baragzai X-1 well in the Nashpa Block, calling it the largest discovery in national history.
During the inauguration of commercial production, Ali Pervaiz Malik said the project will strengthen energy security. Moreover, he noted that it could save around $329 million annually in foreign exchange. This step will also reduce reliance on imported fuel.
According to OGDCL, the well is currently producing 15,000 barrels of oil per day. In addition, it generates 45 million cubic feet of gas daily. Officials aim to increase output to 25,000 barrels and 60 million cubic feet in the near future.

Furthermore, the project was developed in one of the most challenging terrains in the country. Despite this, the company ensured safe and efficient operations by using advanced technology. Notably, an 8-kilometer pipeline was laid in record time to support production.
Overall, Pakistan makes a historic oil and gas discovery in Kohat that significantly boosts domestic output. The Baragzai X-1 well now contributes nearly 10 percent of the country’s total crude oil production. This achievement highlights progress toward energy independence.
