Pakistan Plans First Bullet Train Between Karachi and Lahore
Karachi: Pakistan Railways has announced plans for the country’s first bullet train between Karachi and Lahore. The journey time will reduce from 20 hours to just 5 hours.

According to Radio Pakistan, the high-speed train project is expected to be launched by 2030. The ambitious plan is part of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The proposed line will cover 1,215 kilometres under the $6.8 billion ML-1 upgrade. The project will include double tracks, modern bridges, and an advanced signalling system.

Railway Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique confirmed that the scheme will be developed with support from China Railway Construction Corporation. The train will operate at a speed of 250 kilometres per hour.

The route will connect major cities such as Hyderabad, Multan, and Sahiwal. Officials said the project will also create thousands of jobs and provide safe, comfortable, and fast travel for citizens.

Furthermore, freight share by rail is planned to increase from 4 percent to 20 percent. This will reduce dependence on costly road transport and save billions on fuel imports. Earlier this year, Punjab also approved a bullet train project between Lahore and Rawalpindi, cutting travel time to 2.5 hours.
