Islamabad – Pakistan’s current account recorded a surplus of $2.1 billion in the fiscal year 2024–25, marking the first surplus in 14 years, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The last time the country posted a surplus was in 2010–11. In June 2025 alone, the current account showed a surplus of $328 million, a significant turnaround from a $500 million deficit in June 2024. The previous fiscal year (2023–24) had recorded a $2 billion deficit.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the development, crediting effective government policies. He noted that foreign exchange reserves have surpassed $19 billion, and key economic indicators reflect growing stability.

The Prime Minister added that the government is working to further improve the business climate and encourage domestic and foreign investment.
