Pakistan Railways Announces 2% Increase in Train Fares from July 18

KARACHI: In a move that will affect thousands of daily travellers, Pakistan Railways has officially announced a 2% increase in train fares across all categories, including mail, express, intercity, and passenger trains.
According to a notification issued by the department, the revised fares will take effect from Friday, July 18, 2025. This fare hike adds another financial burden on commuters already facing rising transportation costs.
Separately, Pakistan Railways is planning to outsource several of its services, including the commercial management of passenger trains, as part of broader operational restructuring.
An official from the Ministry of Railways stated that the department earned over Rs 3,959 million in the past three years through the operation of brake and luggage vans. These services were managed both directly by Pakistan Railways and through private contractors under outsourcing arrangements.
