Pakistan Railways announces new refund policy for tickets

Pakistan Railways has introduced a new ticket refund policy, offering more flexibility for travellers. The new policy was officially announced by railway authorities, bringing a major shift in how passengers can claim refunds for their tickets.
Under the updated refund policy, passengers who purchase tickets from railway Point of Sale (POS) counters can receive up to 90% of the ticket price if they cancel their ticket at least 48 hours before the scheduled train departure. This policy also applies to tickets bought through the ‘Rabta’ app.
For cancellations made between 24 to 48 hours before departure, passengers will be refunded 80% of the ticket price, while a 70% refund is applicable if the cancellation is made within 24 hours of the departure. For cancellations made within 2 hours of the scheduled departure, passengers will be eligible for a 50% refund.
In cases where the train is delayed by 6 hours or more, a full refund will be provided. Tickets purchased from POS counters can only be refunded at the same counter, and passengers must present the original ticket along with a copy of their CNIC to process the refund. A cancellation slip and the refunded amount will be provided to the passengers.
For online ticket cancellations, the refund can only be processed through the same online service used for the original purchase. The same refund policy for POS tickets will apply to online ticket cancellations as well. However, no refunds will be granted once the train departs, and online tickets cannot be cancelled if there are less than 1 hour and 30 minutes left before departure.
Passengers are encouraged to check their booking details carefully and be aware of the refund rules before requesting a ticket cancellation. For more information, travellers can visit their nearest railway station or check the official Pakistan Railways website.
