Lahore, Pakistan Tensions have escalated between cricketing giants Pakistan and India as India’s Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) has indicated that the Indian team will not participate in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan. In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has begun coordinating with the federal government to address the situation, according to official sources.

The federal government has issued clear policy guidelines to the PCB, instructing the board to seek clarity from the ICC on the reasons behind India’s refusal. Sources confirm that the PCB, following government directives, will formally write to the ICC to demand transparency on the matter, emphasising that a high-profile clash between Pakistan and India cannot happen without Pakistan’s active participation.

Government officials assert that financial gains from international tournaments are not solely dependent on India’s participation but also rely significantly on Pakistan’s involvement. “Profits are driven not only by India’s presence but also by Pakistan’s,” a government source noted, stressing Pakistan’s importance in the tournament’s success.

As a contingency, the federal government has suggested that if India chooses to opt out, other teams, such as Sri Lanka or the West Indies, could be invited to fill the void. The government has directed the PCB to collaborate closely with the ICC and maintain open communication with other cricket boards to ensure a successful tournament regardless of India’s decision.

Furthermore, sources indicate that the government is considering a strong stance, advising the PCB to reconsider Pakistan’s participation in future ICC and ACC tournaments involving India if the Indian team continues to refuse to play in Pakistan. This proposed measure aims to prompt a fair resolution and uphold Pakistan’s position on the international stage.
