Pakistan to see Rs2 reduction in Electricity rates

ISLAMABAD: The cost of electricity is anticipated to drop by about Rs2 per unit for customers across Pakistan, including Karachi.

Distribution firms have asked the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to lower power costs.

It is anticipated that the price cut will be applied as part of the October–December 2024 quarterly adjustment. As part of the second quarterly adjustment for the current fiscal year, NEPRA has received a request to lower consumer power tariffs by Rs52.12 billion.

On February 12, there will be a hearing on the request. Reductions of Rs2.69 billion in operating and maintenance expenses, Rs2.66 billion in transmission and distribution losses, and Rs50.66 billion in capacity charges are also part of the proposal.
