Pakistani Rice Exports Grow 70% in Chinese Market

Pakistan’s rice exports to China saw strong growth in the first eight months of 2025. According to Chinese customs data, exports rose to $44.31 million, up from $26.30 million during the same period in 2024. This marks an impressive year-on-year increase of 68.5%, reflecting growing trade ties and strong demand for Pakistani rice.

The biggest driver of this rise was semi- or wholly-milled rice. Its exports surged to $33.67 million in 2025, compared to only $5.63 million in 2024. Broken rice also showed healthy growth, reaching $7.71 million during January to August. Analysts credit this success to competitive pricing, good quality, and increasing consumer preference in China.

Pakistan’s expanding role in China’s food market highlights deepening agricultural cooperation between the two countries. The China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement (CPFTA) and better coordination between exporters and importers have made trade smoother. These steps have helped Pakistani rice become more visible and in demand in Chinese markets.

However, experts warn of upcoming challenges. Owais Mir, CEO of Dynamic Engineering & Automation, noted that recent floods have damaged agriculture. He warned that rice export volumes may decline in the coming months if damage continues. Flood-related disruptions could slow the current momentum of trade.

To ensure long-term stability, Mir suggested a shift toward value-added products. He stressed the need for modern technology and learning from China’s agricultural systems. By investing in innovation and reducing reliance on raw exports, Pakistan could secure lasting growth in global food markets.
