Pakistanis Consume Tea Worth Rs179 Billion in One Year
Pakistanis’ deep-rooted love for tea remains unshaken as new official data reveals that the nation consumed over Rs179 billion worth of tea during the fiscal year 2024-25, despite economic pressures and import restrictions.

According to government documents, Pakistan imported a total of 246,514 metric tonnes of tea during the fiscal year, generating a massive import bill of $629 million.

The data shows a 4.20% decrease in tea imports compared to the 259,000 metric tonnes brought in during FY 2023-24. While the volume dipped slightly, the overall consumption remains significantly high, reflecting Pakistanis’ unwavering affection for their favourite beverage.

In June 2025 alone, Pakistan imported 19,804 metric tonnes of tea at a cost exceeding $49.7 million. This was a noticeable 16.94% drop in volume compared to May 2025, when the country imported 21,971 metric tonnes, resulting in an import bill of nearly $60 million.

Despite the decline, the month of June still saw Rs14.18 billion spent on tea—a clear indication that tea remains a daily essential across the country.
