Pakistan’s First Urban Electric Train
Lahore has launched its first urban electric train, the Super Autonomous Rapid Transit (SART), marking a major step in modern transportation.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz personally took a trial ride from Ali Town to Muslim Town, monitoring the train’s road test. She inspected the facilities onboard and reviewed its performance during normal traffic conditions on Raiwind Road and Canal Road.

Transport Minister Bilal Akbar provided a detailed briefing on the SART system. The Chief Minister also checked the road test drive and ensured everything functioned properly. Locals along the route expressed joy as the futuristic train passed by. The SART, already operational in Turkey, China, and Abu Dhabi, now brings global standards to Lahore.

The Super Autonomous Rapid Transit has three coaches, with space for a fourth if needed. It can carry up to 320 passengers at once. After one full charge, the electric train can travel up to 40 kilometres. It comes fully equipped with air conditioning and other modern comforts to ensure a smooth passenger experience.

Maryam Nawaz highlighted that this electric train will help reduce air pollution and improve traffic conditions in the city. She emphasised the government’s commitment to eco-friendly development and modern public transport systems for Punjab’s people. The new SART service is expected to enhance Lahore’s beauty and ease daily commutes.

Furthermore, plans are underway to introduce the SART system in other major cities like Gujranwala and Faisalabad. Maryam Nawaz stated that good news for the public is now a regular feature in Punjab. The successful test of this electric train signals a cleaner, more efficient transport future for the province.
