In the first nine months of 2024, Pakistan produced 22.59 million mobile phones, marking a significant achievement in local manufacturing as imports continue to decline. Data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) reveals that of these units, 13.86 million were smartphones and 8.73 million were 2G feature phones, highlighting a growing shift toward smartphones.

Smartphone adoption in Pakistan is steadily rising, accounting for 64% of all devices on local networks. Meanwhile, the use of 2G devices dropped to 36%, down from 41% in 2023, reflecting the country’s ongoing digital transformation.

PTA’s report also noted a sharp decrease in imports, with only 1.1 million units brought in during this period, underscoring Pakistan’s expanding production capacity. Infinix emerged as the top local producer, manufacturing 2.79 million units. Despite a production recovery in 2024, figures remain lower than in previous years, with challenges from economic conditions and import restrictions affecting output.

The steady shift toward smartphones aligns with Pakistan’s broader digital transition, as more users upgrade from basic 2G feature phones to smarter devices.
