ISLAMABAD The Supreme Court of Pakistan has heard challenges to the “controversial” Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) Law 2025.

A person has petitioned the Supreme Court (SC), claiming that the recent revisions are unconstitutional and a violation of fundamental human rights.

In particular, the petition argued that the fundamental right to freedom of expression is compromised by several PECA regulations. It asked the highest court to examine these clauses and determine if they are in line with human rights.

The president, the speaker of the National Assembly, the Senate chairman, and the secretary of law have all been designated as respondents in the lawsuit by the petitioner.
