PM Shehbaz Visits Gilgit-Baltistan to Review Flood Damage

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Gilgit-Baltistan for a one-day visit to assess the impact of recent floods. The region has suffered heavy rain and flash floods, displacing residents and causing major damage. His visit aims to oversee relief efforts and offer support to those affected.
During his visit, the prime minister will meet with flood-hit families and listen to their concerns. He will also distribute compensation checks to those who lost homes, belongings, or livestock. These payments are intended to help victims begin rebuilding their lives.
In addition, PM Shehbaz will chair a high-level meeting in Gilgit to review the flood damage. He will also consult with Gilgit Governor Syed Mehdi Shah and Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan. The session will focus on future steps to prevent further losses.
Meanwhile, NDMA Chairman Lt. Gen. Inam Haider Malik reported serious national damage from ongoing monsoon disasters. So far, 295 people have died, and more than 700 have been injured across Pakistan. Over 1,600 homes are destroyed, and hundreds of animals have been lost.
The NDMA has issued new flood warnings. Minor flooding is expected at Tarbela, Chashma, Taunsa, and Kalabagh. Moderate flooding may occur at Head Marala and Guddu along the Chenab River. Authorities warn the monsoon could intensify by late August.
Earlier, on July 25, the Pakistan Air Force carried out a successful rescue operation in Gilgit-Baltistan. They airlifted stranded tourists and locals after a cloudburst triggered flash floods. Rescue efforts continue across the region to reach those still in need.
