LAHORE — The number of suspects accused in connection with violent protests and attacks on police in Lahore has risen to 681, police officials confirmed. The Punjab Police have intensified their crackdown, extending efforts to arrest suspects across multiple cities in the province.

So far, more than 5,600 individuals have been apprehended across Punjab in relation to the unrest. Authorities are actively tracking down additional suspects with the help of mobile phone call records and WhatsApp data.

Police are also monitoring social media accounts linked to those involved in orchestrating the violence. “We are tracing individuals who incited chaos through social media platforms,” a police spokesperson said.

The protests resulted in injuries to approximately 250 police officers, with Lahore bearing the brunt—142 officers were hurt in the city alone. Additionally, one inspector lost his life during clashes with protestors.

Security sources revealed that organizers behind the recent violent demonstrations by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) have been identified. A comprehensive list of suspects has been compiled and shared with law enforcement agencies.

“Using geo-fencing technology, authorities have mapped the nationwide network and command centers behind the unrest. Call data records have helped expose the masterminds and key operatives,” said sources.

Furthermore, a list of TLP financiers and facilitators has been prepared, and a targeted crackdown is anticipated soon.

TLP chief Saad Hussain Rizvi, along with several party workers, has been charged with terrorism for their alleged involvement in violent attacks on police in Rawat, Taxila, and Muridke.
