European Commission Meeting: Possible Sanctions Against Israel Under Consideration

Brussels: The European Commission is set to discuss possible measures against Israel in today’s meeting, aiming to increase pressure for a ceasefire in Gaza.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said ahead of the meeting that Israel’s ground operation is worsening an already dire humanitarian situation. According to her, the offensive risks causing further loss of life and widespread destruction.
She explained that proposals on the table include suspending Israel’s trade privileges with the EU, as well as imposing sanctions on extremist Israeli ministers and violent settlers.
Kallas stressed that these steps are intended to push the Israeli government toward agreeing to an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
The EU has emphasised that such actions would send a clear signal that member states are serious about demanding an end to the conflict.
